Dedicated Storage Service (DSS) – Physically isolated storage resource pool exclusively available to a tenant
For critical applications which request for data privacy and isolation
It is recommended for critical applications which request for data privacy and isolation. The method for using a DSS disk is the same as that for using hard disks on traditional servers. The DSS disk provides high data reliability and I/O throughput and is easy to use. Therefore, it can be used by file systems, databases, and other system software or applications that require block storage devices.
DSS provides disks for ECS servers, DeH servers and BMS servers. DSS disks can be backed up in VBS, and VBS backups can be restored to DSS disks. DSS disk backups can be used to create a new EVS disks.
The DSS provides you with a high-performance, persistent block storage. A DSS is a physically isolated storage resource pool exclusively available to a tenant. The tenant can apply multiple DSS pools offline by email or call to customer service with related information, such as domain name, region, available zone, DSS name, DSS type, DSS capacity, etc. A DSS pool can be extended offline when the tenant applies for DSS extension, and when the tenant doesn’t need the DSS pool anymore, the DSS pool can be deleted offline when the tenant applies for the DSS deletion. The tenant also applies for the DSS extension and DSS deletion offline by email or call to customer service.
DSS provides the following features:
- Supports multiple types of DSS, including high I/O, ultra-high I/O DSS types. You can apply for the DSS types based on your I/O requirements.
- All the DSS pools supports over provisioning, thin allocation. Allocate capacity up to twice the available capacity.
- DSS supports disks related features which are similar with EVS.
- The DSS disk can be attached to ECS, DeH and BMS servers for system disks or data disks.
Benefits
High Reliability
Data stored with 3 copies, for a data durability of 99.99995%.
High Performance
Based on distributed storage architecture, it is high scale-out, and provides high throughput and high I/O for the application.
Flexibility
DSS provides disks for ECS servers, DeH servers and BMS servers, suitable for HPC, OLAP, hybrid workloads application scenarios
Rich Specifications
Has multiple DSS type and provides rich specifications as the EVS, such as shared disk, disk backup, etc.
Dedicated Storage
SMS utilise des AK et des SK pour Physically isolated storage resource pool exclusively available to a tenant. It provides high security for tenant data, and satisfies the compliance requirement
Application scenarios: high performance computing
Security and supervision
In industries such as finance and security, customers have high compliance requirements for service deployment, and some of them may also have strict requirements for data security. On this occasion, physical storage devices must be deployed to ensure dedicated resources and data isolation for monitoring and tracing, Such as banks, securities.
Hybrid workload
DSS support multiple concurrent, high I/O and high throughput with multiple DSS type. It can fully meet requirements for hybrid workload scenarios, such as HPC, database, email, Office Automation, web system.
High performance computing
For scenarios, such as vehicle simulation, gene sequencing, machine learning, etc, it is recommended to use Ultra-High I/O DSS to meet the application requirements for high I/O and high throughput. The DSS can also support the physically isolated storage resource pool to high secure the tenant’s data.
OLAP Applications
The on-line analytical processing application which supports cluster-based deploy, such as Oracle RAC, DB2, SAP HANA, etc. These mainstream applications need high throughput, multi-attach and SCSI-3 lock features. Multiple DSS type can be choose to meet different level performance requirements based on the application you deployed.

Table 1 : DSS specificationThe effective capacity of a DSS pool is not lower than 85% of the applied capacity of the DSS pool. The type of a DSS disk is the same as the type of the DSS pool. The maximum capacity of a single DSS disk cannot larger than the remaining effective capacity of the DSS pool.
